This post pairs with my last one, the DIY Mini Beach Umbrella Frame. The combination offer a relaxing day at the beach or shaded picnic in miniature form.

Supplies:

Fabric, ~1/4 yard I used an outdoor canvas material.

Sewing Machine: I used a portable one, and it was perfect for this project.

Pins, Thread, Fabric Scissors, Colored Pencil/Tailors Chalk, Ruler/Cutting BoardHot Glue Gun, Craft Mat, Large Button

My Process:

First, I cut a triangle formed by an angle just under 60 degrees, and sides extending out 11″. The smaller the angle, the more concave the umbrella will be. The closer the angle is to 60 degrees, the flatter the umbrella will be.

I marked the top angle with an arrow in pencil to remember the orientation. This point would be the center of the umbrella. Next, I pinned and sewed hems at each corner.

Then, I pinned and hemmed the side opposite the center point.

I repeated this process so I now had two triangle sections.

I pinned and hemmed along the shared edge of each triangle.

I repeated this process with a third triangle section.

I created another three triangles and sewed them together in a similar fashion, and then sewed the resulting segments together.

Next, I took a large button and cut two pieces of fabric to cover it. One I cut in an oversized flower pattern, the other in an undersized circle to just fit the button.

I used a hot glue gun to attach the fabric to the button, and then attach the button to the center of the umbrella canopy.

With that, my beach umbrella canopy was complete! I attached it to the umbrella frame from my earlier post, and my dolls were ready for a day at the beach.

This was a challenging craft but I learned a lot doing it. I’d like to try out this umbrella in different settings and make some other accessories to go with it. Stay tuned!

Thanks for visiting, and happy crafting!
