DIY Mini Fern [6:1 Scale for Fashion Dolls]

With spring in the air, it felt like it was time to plant a miniature garden. I saw some full-sized ferns growing near my house recently and thought I’d try a miniature version.

Supplies:

Tissue Paper: Two sheets, both green, one lighter than the other (or whatever color combo feels right!)

Green Paddle Wire, 22 gauge: A nice flexible wire for the stems.

Miniature Pot: See this earlier post.

Air-Dry Clay: To hold all the stems in place. Could also use florists foam here.

My Process:

To start, I cut the paddle wire into sixteen, 3.5″ sections.

Next, I marked and cut the tissue paper into 0.5″ wide x 2″ long strips, sixteen pieces in each color.

Then, I used the glue stick to coat the end of one of the wires. I centered it on a light-green piece of tissue paper, and placed a dark-green piece of tissue paper on top, sandwiching the wire between the two. I repeated this process for all sixteen “leaves”.

Next, I trimmed the end corners off the leaves, to give it a more natural look.

Then, I used the herb scissors and cut along the edges of each leaf at an angle. I ruffled the edges a bit at the end to create a more natural look.

Finally, I took my miniature pot, filled it with some air-dry clay, and inserted each leaf one by one, arranging as I went.

This was a fun craft for spring, an easy one to learn, and a great way to use one of my miniature pots. 😊

Thanks for visiting, and happy crafting!
